Thigh High Tights
Thigh high tights give women a chance to be fashionable and feminine without some of the normal constraints of stockings. Thigh high tights leave the thighs exposed instead of staying up on the waist like regular stockings and completely covering the crotch area.
Women who wear thigh high tights find several benefits for this kind of hosiery. As a practical measure, it makes going to the bathroom quicker, easier and more convenient. Some women appreciate the ease of not having to struggle with lowering pantyhose, especially when their need to go to the bathroom is urgent.
There is also an erotic benefit, especially heightened when there are textured hose like fishnet thigh highs. Just as there is easy access for those who need to go to the bathroom, there is equal easy access when the tights are worn during sexual activity. Sex partners do not have to fumble with garters, suspenders or other “hold ups” in order to be intimate.
Thigh high tights also have a health benefit. Exposed thigh area gives an opportunity for more air to circulate allowing ventilation and less sweating. This greatly reduces the likelihood of bacterial infections that can be caused by undergarments that are too tight and do not allow skin to breathe.
Most thigh high tights are made with nylon, though this was not always the case. Early hose released in the 1940s were made with silk or cotton and they always were made with a seam.
According to some historians, the reason women in the 1940s and 1950s began to shave their legs was because stockings were so sheer, they did not want leg hairs poking through the stocking material or unsightly hair to be visible beneath a hem line.
For a time, some manufacturers used rayon to make hose and thigh high tights after the practice of using silk or cotton. Fortunately this has evolved to nylon. It would be hard to imagine opaque thigh high stockings made of thick cotton. However, you can go with thigh high socks as an alternative option.
