Thigh High Boots

Thigh High Socks and Thigh High Tights are all the rage today. Learn more about how and why this relatively low cost wardrobe accessory is making a hue splash in the fashion world

Thigh high boots, also referred to as thigh length boots, are back in vogue. They were featured prominently during the fall 2009 season, with many different major fashion designers showcasing them as a part of their fall collections. Previously considered rather risqué footwear, favored by call girls and featured in erotic magazines, they are now fast becoming a common fashion accessory for many women worldwide.

Thigh high boots differ from knee high boots in that they are longer than standard knee boots. While knee high boots stop just below the knee, thigh high boots extend above the knee with some reaching as high as the upper thigh. They were once primarily made from either black, white or other brightly colored polyurethane or vinyl which gave them a shiny appearance, however now they are made from a variety of material including leather, suede and patent leather. You can even find boots made from materials such as silk or polyester that cling to your legs and look like a long stocking. Thigh high leather boots cost quite a bit more than those made from cheaper materials such as vinyl or polyurethane, thus they are usually sold under fashion designer labels or at trendy, fashion boutiques.

Typically, these particular boots sport zippers along the side, or are laced up at the front, which makes them easy to put on. There are some thigh-high boots, however, that are pull on boots. Pull on boots are usually made from softer, more yielding material so that they are easy to put on. Heel height and style varies. Originally thigh high boots sported high, spiked or platform heels but these days heel height ranges from flat heels to heels measuring over three inches, with the higher heels either chunky or stiletto styles.

Of course, thigh high boots are popular amongst female singers and they have also been worn by female actresses in several box office hit movies, such as the black boots worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Women. White thigh high boots were all that the Playboy 25th Anniversary Playmate wore while being photographed. More recently, Michelle Obama set tongues wagging when she ordered two pair of thigh high boots from France. Now, not only the rich and famous are wearing them but they are also sold in most department stores and regular shoe stores and they are readily available online including being sold on popular auction sites such as eBay and Amazon.

Thigh high boots can be worn with a variety of outfits, although they are often worn tucked into jeans or with short skirts and leggings, (though no fishnet stockings, please!) While this revived style of boots favors smaller to medium figures, thigh length boots can also look great on a fuller figured woman wearing a long, loose fitting top that hangs down to the knees. They look fantastic on long legged women but unless you are really very short your height, or lack of it, should not hinder you from trying out the latest fashion of thigh high boots.

Another option you could consider to  pull off the same kind of look but with more flexibility and economy is wearing some thigh high socks.  Less money, and more variety to mix and match with your wardrobe.
